How do I share an account?

Everything you need to know about sharing your Minichef account across multiple devices or with family members.

How do I share an account?

Cooking is often a collaborative effort, whether you’re coordinating grocery lists with a partner or sharing a family iPad in the kitchen. Minichef makes it simple to keep multiple devices perfectly in sync.

Here is how sharing an account works in Minichef.

Syncing Across Your Own Devices

Minichef uses cloud syncing automatically. If you have an iPhone, an iPad, and a Mac:

  1. Download Minichef on all your devices.
  2. Log in using the exact same account method (e.g., Sign in with Apple, or the same email address).
  3. That’s it! If you save a recipe on your iPhone while commuting, it will instantly appear on your iPad when you get home to cook. Your grocery lists and meal plans will sync in real-time.

Sharing with a Partner or Housemate

If you want to share a collaborative grocery list and recipe collection with someone else in your household, the best way to do this is by sharing a single Minichef login.

Currently, Minichef uses a single-account sync model rather than complex multi-user permission sharing. To set this up:

  1. Decide on a shared login method. We recommend creating a Minichef account using an email address rather than a personal Apple ID to make sharing easier.
  2. Have your partner sign in to the Minichef app on their phone using that email address and password.
  3. Now, you both share the same “Cookbook.”

How Shared Accounts Work in Practice:

  • Collaborative Grocery Lists: If your partner checks off “Milk” at the store, it will check off on your phone too.
  • Shared Meal Plans: You can both view and edit the meals planned for the week.
  • Unified Cookbook: Any recipe saved by either person is immediately available to both.

Note on Premium Subscriptions: Premium subscriptions are tied to the Apple ID or Google Play account that purchased them. If you both log into the same Minichef account, you will share the recipe data, but premium features might require setting up Family Sharing through Apple or Google’s native subscription settings depending on your device ecosystem.
