Minichef vs MyFitnessPal: family dinner planning or nutrition tracking?

Compare Minichef’s cookbook-based meal planning with MyFitnessPal’s food logging, nutrition goals, and Premium+ meal planner.

Short answer

Pick MyFitnessPal if nutrition logging and goal tracking are the priority. Pick Minichef if recipe collection, family meals, and the shopping workflow are the priority.

We build Minichef, so this is a first-party comparison. We are not claiming an independent lab test or that Minichef is best for everyone. The useful question is which app makes your dinner workflow easier.

What each app is built to do

Minichef: Minichef focuses on saving and cooking recipes, then using an AI Chef to plan from your cookbook and build a grocery list. It is a closer fit when the main goal is deciding what the household will cook.

MyFitnessPal: MyFitnessPal is primarily a food and nutrition tracking product. Its current help page describes a Premium+ meal planner that builds plans around goals, cuisines, cooking time and exclusions, with meal logging and grocery ordering in supported regions.

Where Minichef may be the better fit

Minichef starts from saved recipes and a cooking plan. MyFitnessPal connects planned food to nutrition targets and the diary. These are overlapping meal tools but different primary jobs.

Minichef’s listed workflow covers importing recipe links, social recipes, photos, screenshots and text; asking its AI Chef to plan or modify recipes; and generating grocery lists. See the Minichef App Store listing, the Minichef meal-planner page and the Minichef recipe-organizer page for the current product description. The free tier and premium limits can change; the App Store shows current terms before purchase.

Where MyFitnessPal may be the better fit

MyFitnessPal is the stronger choice if calorie, macro, and food-diary tracking are central. Its meal planner is tied to Premium+ and the supported countries listed in its help center.

Which should you choose?

Pick MyFitnessPal if nutrition logging and goal tracking are the priority. Pick Minichef if recipe collection, family meals, and the shopping workflow are the priority.

If you already use MyFitnessPal, test one real week before moving your entire cookbook. Check that your most important recipes import correctly, that the plan matches how your household eats, and that the grocery workflow suits your store. Do not delete your existing library until you have confirmed your recipes are available somewhere else.
